Pitch Life
One footballer, from a trial at sixteen to the last game of a career.
Pitch Life is a text game about being a professional footballer rather than running a club. You create one player, and every match is a minute or two of live commentary with three to five decisions that are actually yours: shoot or square it, chase the ball or hold the line, say the thing to the manager or keep it in.
Between matches there is the rest of the life. Wages, training, an agent, a first car, the local paper, a manager who noticed you were out on Thursday. What you buy and who you listen to changes how the next season goes, and none of it changes a scoreline you did not earn.
Everything in the game is invented. The clubs, the leagues, the players alongside you and the cities they come from are generated by the game, and every name is checked against a blocklist of real clubs and real people before it is shown to you.
The game runs entirely on your device. There is no account, no sign-in, and it works with the phone in airplane mode.
